Emmett to ride Suzuki RG500 in South African Classic TT series

Ex-500cc and BSB rider Sean Emmett will challenge for honours on RG500 in classic racing series in South Africa in New Year

Ex-500cc꧒ grand prix rider and BSB star Sean Emmett will contest the three-round South African Class TT series on a 1976 Suzuki RG500 Mk6 in 201🌱3.

Emmett - whose four seasons of 500GP (1993-1996) included partnering Kevin Schwantz in the iconic Lucky Strike Suzuki team, before later battling at tꩵhe sharp end of BSB - will be part of the Team Classic Suzuki squad run by British bu🐭sinessman and Grand Prix enthusiast Steve Wheatman.

The team will be managed by formerꦰ Suzuki factꦺory technician, Paul Boulton.

The SA Classic TT Racing Series has൲ now been running for five years and recreates a golden era of South African motorcycle racing when the likes of Barry Sheene, Mick Grant, Giacomo Agostini, Phil Read, John Cooper, Ray Pickerel, Chas Mortimer and many more GP stars travelled to South Africa over the Christmas period to race in the sunshine.

Emmett's entry intoไ the current SA Classic TT Series isn't ꦏthe first time a Suzuki RG500 has competed in the series.

Last year, Mick Grant won the overall title on the same 1984 factory RG500 he🧸 used to win in his final appearance at the Macau GP - the bike that Sheene raced at the end of his last-ever GP season.

The series consists over six races over three circuits in January and February, with two races each at the Aldo Scribante circuit in Port Elizabeth, Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria; and the final two races at the famous Kyalami GP circuit in Joh🔥annesburg.
