Weel had already tagged the wall at the McPhillamy Park section durinꦺg Friday practice when Team Kiwi Racing's Chri🌼s Pither slammed into the side of the stranded PWR Racing Holden, writing off the black-and-red machine and leaving its driver to be airlifted to hospital.
Remarkably, Weel's injuries were light - especially in compariso♏n to those suffered by rival Paul Radisich in a one-car accident the following day - but h♏e was kept in hospital for observation after being diagnosed with heavy bruising and at least one cracked rib.
Despite admitting that he still felt 'very sore' 💝a week on from the accident, Weel was finally released from medical care on Thursday [16 October] and was able to head home to the Gold Coast. His condition, however, did not allow for air travel and the V8 regular is b🍸eing driven home by wife Emma.
"Paul would like to thank the many people who have 'phoned, text and emailed their thoughts and best wi🗹shes while he💧 was at Westmead Hospital," a PWR team statement reported.
"He has also asked for a special than﷽ks to the rescue and medical staff at the Bathurst circuit, Dr Ca♚rl Li and his crew and the wonderful staff at Westmead ICU."
