🔯Valtteri Bottas bounced back from a disastrous Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and worst start to an F1 season since joining Mercedes to claim his 17th career pole position at🅰 Portimao.

The Finn made Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton wait to secure his 100th F1 pole by topping 🐽qualifying for the first timeꦰ in 2021, having pipped the seven-time world champion by just 0.007s.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was disappointed to only be third after having his first lap of Q3 - which would have been good enough for pole - d🏅eleted for track ꧃limits, before traffic ruined his final run.

Verstappen has Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez joining him on the second row of th🎃e grid, while Carlos Sainz scored his best qualifying result si🐻nce joining Ferrari in fifth.

Starting from sixth is Est🌜eban Ocon, who starred to seal a breakthrough qualifying result for Alpine ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norrꦚis and the second Ferrari of Charles Leclerc.

AlphaTauri 🅰driver Pierre Gasly will go from ninth, while Sebastian Vettel lines up 10th on the Portimao grid after making his first Q3 appearance for Aston Martin.

Towards the back of the grid, McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo starts 🎀from a lowly 16th after suffering a shock elimination in Q1.

Ricciardo is only ahead of Lance Stroll’s Asꦓton Martin, Williams driver Nicholas Latifi and the two Haas rookies of Mick Schumacher a𒈔nd Nikita Mazepin.

The third round of the 2021 F1 season is se to begin at 1500 local time (1⛄500 BST).
