Michelin readies “special construction” tyres for Thailand MotoGP
Michelin will provide its specially prepared rear tyres for the Thailand MotoGP which have only been used in Austria so far this season due to the unusual cꦰircuit characteristics at the Chang International Circuit.
The French tyre manufacturer has selected the same rear tyre range offered at the Red Bull Ring, with riders set to use soft, medium and hard compounds with an asymmetrical design due to a harder construction on the right-hand 💜side of the tyre.

Michelin will provide its specially prepared rear tyres for the Thailand MotoGP which have only been used in Austriಌa so far this sꦬeason due to the unusual circuit characteristics at the Chang International Circuit.
The French tyre manufacturer has se🔯lected the same rear tyre range offered at the Red Bull Ring, with riders set to use soft, medium and hard compounds with an asymmetrical design due to a harder construct𓃲ion on the right-hand side of the tyre.
Given the ไhigh-energy right-hand corners at the Buriram circuit, Michelin Motorsport Two-Wheel Manager Piero Taramasso says from the data it has to rely on at last year’s maiden MotoGP test and Grand Prix in Thailand the “special” tyre constructions are required.
“This is our third visit to Buriram following the test and race there last year and each time w🐼e have learned more and been able to assess the tyres and makes changes for the next visit,” Taramasso said.
“It is a very seཧvere track on rear tyres and creates a lot of heat for the rubber, so we have a special construction – which we also use j🤪ust in Austria – to counteract this situation.
“Last year we were told it would be cooler and wet during October, but it was hot and dry, 🐼so we have prepared a range of tyres that can contend with all conditions.”
Michelin w🦄ill also supply symmetric soft, medium and hard front tyres from the data it recorded from last year’s events at the Thai tඣrack.
With a high chance of rain also poss꧑ible in Buriram, with the region’s rainy season spanning between August and mid-October, Michelin also has soft and medium fron🐲t and rear wet tyres with the rear soft compound also using an asymmetric design with the harder right-hand side.
“There was a big crowd at Buriram last year and it was a great event, we are sure it will be the same this year and that Michelin will play ꧂a part in giving ඣthe fans a race to enjoy,” Taramasso added.
Marc Marquez claimed victory in the first-ever Thailand MotoGP 12 months ago for Repsol Honda in a last-corner fight with Ducati’s Andrea Dovizi🍒oso with Maverick Vinales completing the podium for the factory Yamaha squad.
Marquez has his first opportunity to wrap-up the Mo🦩toGP world title this weekend, with the Spaniard needing to outscore Dovizioso but just two points in Buriram.
