Andrea Dovizioso has confirmed he will use the new Ducati fairing upgrade for the Czech Repu♌blic race after securing his first MotoGP pole position in almost two years.
Having been identified as a front-runner during Friday practice, Dovizioso produced a final Q2 lap to bolt to pole position with a 1m 54.689s over a quarter of a second ahead of nearest challenger Valentino Rossi on the factory Yamaha to claim his firsཧt pole since the 2016 Malaysian round.
Dovizioso said he had been eager to try out the new Ducaℱti f♏airing which debuted on Danilo Petrucci’s Pramac Ducati on Friday. Dovizioso duly used it in both FP4 and qualifying and having been ✅pleased with the results the Ducati rider says he’ll use the GP18 aerodynamic upgrade in the race at Brno.
“It looks like we will use it tomorrow,”💮 Dovizioso said. “The difference is not clear and it is always diff♚icult when you try something like that. It is difficult to understand the differences.
“It looks a bit 💮better under breaking but from the morning to the afternoon we also changed the tyre so we didn’t have a lot of time to make a real comparison so it is noܫt clear what the positive things are or maybe if there are negative things.”
Re𝔉flecting on his sixth career MotoGP pole position, Dovizioso feels the lap was a culmination of his promising pracꦚtice pace having opted to push having been faster after the first intermediate split on his final flying lap.
“I am happier with the lap time that I did rather thanꦇ the pole position,” he said. “I never really do pole positions throughout my career, it is not really my style, so I am not too focused on that.
“But in the way we did the lap and the pole position it is important because I didn’t have anyone in front of me and I was able to push really hard and make everything in the perfect way to make a really good la🧸p time.
“It was really hot and it was difficult to be r⛦eally fast and under the 1m 55s but at the end the bike worked really well.
“After the f𝔍irst intermediate I saw ꦡa good time and I decided to push really hard and the bike answered me.
“It was really good and I was able t🔜o brake really hard to be smooth and use the potential of a new soft tyre. This confir♒ms the good work we did during the weekend.”
