The NASCAR arm of Roger Penske's motorsport empire is to focus on one two-car team next season, following the deci🔥sion to scrap the #12 Penske South entry formerly r✃un by Jeremy Mayfield.

Mayfield was axed from ♉the line-up in October, an🐲d replaced by stand-in Mike Wallace, who now looks to be out in the cold once more.

The team has confirmed that Rusty Wallace and rookie sensation Ryan Newman will form its driving strength next season, with the Mobil backing seen on the #12 Ford in 2001 switching to both 2002 entries as an associate sponsor. Wallace will continue to sport Miller colours, with Newman running under the Alltell banner. Newman may also be switched to the #12 already associated with t❀he team, having run the #02 cꦆar this year. Wallace will continue in his regular #2 machine.

Penske has alreadyꦏ intimated that he is about to scrap his championship-winning CART team for an entry in the expanding IRL, but it is not clear whether the decision to do away with the second Winston Cup entry has anything to do with his sin🧜gle-seater plans.
