Cameron McLean will replace Phillip Sc🐻ifleet in the #33 Repco Valvoline Cummins Commodore during October's Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 after the former full-time driver was signed by Garry Rogers Motorsport for the legendary endurance race.
McLean drove for Ford Performance Racing at Sandown, driving once-off in place of the squad's international driver David Brabham who returns to the team for Bathurst. Left seatless for the upcoming Supercheap Aut𓆉o 1000, McLean was today signed by Garry Rogers Motorsport, to partner Greg Ritter - the man he co-drove for in the FPR second car during 2005.
Having started his V8 Supercar career with Garry Rogers Motorsport in 1998, before eventua🀅lly making his way to his own Ford team before closing up shop and selling his V8 Supercar licence to David Tꩲhexton in 2002, McLean has been a regular signing for endurance racing, primarily with Ford, since the 2003 endurance races.
Team Principal Garry Rogers wanted someone who wouldn't make the 'mistakes' made at Sandown by the team and will draw on McLean's ex♈perience at the🍎 Great Race in October.
"There were some ♛mistakes made during the race that simply shouldn't have been and we cannot afford to have them happen at Bathurst," ꦫsaid Rogers.
"Cameron has driven for GRM before so he's familiar with the sort of approach we loꦅok for in our driver🥂s and, given he raced at Sandown, he's not being thrown into the deep end without driving a V8 Supercar in recent times.
ꦇ"There's no doubt that bo𝕴th cars were running strongly at Sandown and only one of them had a decent result, being the #34 car.
"We want to have b𒈔oth cars run well♔ at Bathurst and think this change to the line-ups can help us achieve that."
At Sandown, McLean finished fifteenth in the Ford Credit/BroadIP Falcon with Ma♎tthew Halliday. Garry Rogers Motorsport had mixed results with Dean Canto and Lee Holdsworth claiming sixth, whilst the second car of Ritter and Scifleet struggled to twentieth - down four laps on winners Jason Bright and Mark Winterbottom.
Cameron McLean will test with the Repco Valvoline Cummins Team on September 19 with Greg Ritter and GRM regulars Dean Ca🌸nto and Lee Holds🦹worth.
