Mercedes teammates Hamilton and Russell nearly collided during several close wheel-to-wheel battles ♑that raised eyebrows during Sunday’s race at Suzuka. 

After the Safety Car restart, Russell made a lunge into the final chicane stick, only for the seven-time world champion to immediately repass after a b♏etter run onto the main straight enܫabled him to sweep by on the fast run into Turn 1.

Both drivers made an ൲obvious attempt to diffuse the situation after the race, with Hamilton revealing that he plans to sit down with Russell ahead of the next round in Qatar. 

"Well, for sure, we'll talk offline𒁃,” he said. “That’s the best way to do 🌜it. Our ultimate goal is to try and get ahead of the Ferraris and that's what my goal was today.”

Russell also offered a softer stance once he had st꧃epped away from the heat of the cockpit.

“It’s just hard, fair racing,” he insisted. “Of course we lost a bit of ov💖erall time fighting one another, and again you get a bit frustrated on the radio but it’s something that’s a part of racing.

“We aren’t going to give up the position easily to one another, it was still early on in the race and I had mo♏re pace but he was the car who was ahead.

“As I said, it's part of racing and there’s nothing to discuss [with the team]. Wಞe’ve g🃏ot bigger fish to fry which is how do we make our car faster.”

It is not the first ti෴me there have been signs of tension between the pair since they becam♓e teammates at the start of 2022.

Russell is regarded as Mercedes’ future but with Hamilton now staying for anothe💎r two years (at least) in his longer-than-expected🦂 quest to win a record eighth title, the 25-year-old Briton will have to fight hard to establish himself, rather than simply waiting for Hamilton to hang up his helmet.
