Ren🗹ault never considered making a move to re-sign Fernando Alonso for the 2019 Formula 1 season for fear of not being able to match his expectations, according to team boss Cyril Abiteboul.

While Abiteboul conceded Ricciardo offered tꦗhe most “wow effect”, he said the ♎team would have been happy with either Ocon or Sainz as part of its line-up.

“If you look at the three options that𒁏 we had, I must say, doing more years with Carlos, going with Esteban, or Daniel, all three options𓃲 were all very valid, and would almost have been equally satisfied with all three options,” Abiteboul said.

“Obviously Daniel has a bit of ‘wow’ effect, because it was not really what people were expec✱ting. But we are not choosing our drivers just to create a wow effect for one day.

“The wow effect will com🌺e if we are capable of winning races together in the next two years.”
