Andrew Irwin went some way to making up for the disappointmen💯t of his his erstwhile championship leading brother Glenn crashing out, by winning the opening British Superbike Championship race at Donington Park.
Glenn has has led the BSB standings𓆏 since the opening round, but having come into the weekend leading four riders across 12 points, he surrendered his advantage straight away after crashing at Goddards on the opening lap, fortunately unharmed.
HIs brother✃ Andrew took up the mantle in his absence, easing home to a his first wins sin꧋ce the Donington Park opener back in August when he was a two-time winner on the debuting Honda CBR1000RR-R.
Completing the podium, VisionTrack Ducati duo Christian Iddon and Josh Brookes ascended into fi🥂rst and second in the overall standings respectively, heading up Irwin and Jason O’Halloran - down in 14th on the McAMS Yamaha - both eight points adrift.
His team-mate Tarran Mackenzie snatched fourth posi💦tion from Ryan Vickers, who claimed his best result of the season in fifth position on the RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasa🔴ki, a feat mirrored by Gino Rea, who managed his best BSB result yet in sixth on the Buildbase Suzuki.
Jack Kennedy on the second RAF Kawasaki scored the f🔯astest lap - and thus pole po🍒sition for race two - on his way to seventh, with Kyle Ryde, Danny Buchan and Lee Jackson rounding out the top ten.
With the evolving weather conditions creating a mixture of tyre strategies, some unusually fancied riders came to the fore to make up the grid for Race 2 with Kennedy joined on the front row by Ryde and ⭕Andrew Irwin, followed by Mackenzie and Rea.
